Philosophy
I believe that every student is capable of learning. It is an educator’s responsibility to create a learning environment that meets the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of their students. An educator should understand what skills and content knowledge a student is bringing into their classroom, and what are the necessary steps in allowing the student to succeed to their next benchmark.
It is my plain to continue implementing education though student centered interactive activities, with constant checks on learning. Education should be incorporate diversified learning strategies and procedures that mirror the diversity found within the classroom. A teacher should celebrate the diversity found in her classroom, and use it to enhance the learning experience for all students.
The main focus of education should always be the enhancement of life skills. A teacher should strive to connect the academic world to the real world with concrete examples and applicable skills.
Social Studies education in particular allows for a true connection between the textbook and the real world. Social Studies education should strive to make better citizens out of its students. Through reading, writing, analyzing, researching, developing and defending positions within Social Studies curriculum students are becoming well round citizens. A Social Studies teacher has the stage to discuss morals and principles with their students when exploring historical events and political decisions. A Social Studies teacher should constantly strive to connect their content to concrete examples with the student’s realm of the world. Ever expanding their idea of what it is to be a global citizen.
